Why do I want to dress as a middle-aged man this fall?

WHAT’S NEW?

Hi and welcome back to my inconsistent blog. SO much has happened since we last hung out. Here are some highlights:

  • WE MOVED! Probably our biggest news of the year, tbh. We have always dreamed of having a shop in Hillcrest, and when the space below our friends at Control Records opened up, we couldn’t jump on it fast enough. Good thing we moved so quickly (and spontaneously,) because we were the first serious inquiry. It took about a month and a half to paint, decorate, organize, and open our doors and it has been thrill after thrill since then. I’m loving all the extra space, and have even already had a photoshoot for new items for the website already! Get ready to finally see more models and a wider variety of clothing again!

  • We have a POP-UP PATIO! I know this is in the same vein as the ~ moving ~ news, but it’s a major upgrade for our small business friends who pop up with us! Now, we can host vendors (at least up to two, maybe even three!) and all be able to spread out a little. If you ever went to one of the pop-ups at the downtown location, you know we just made it work and we thank you for your willingness to shimmy and squeeze around each other to shop! We’ve been booking out that patio and have a ton of events coming up!

  • KATE IS BACK! A lot of you got to meet our new shop pal, Kate, last spring before we moved. She works every Sunday and every other Saturday, and is so good at styling up our pieces and getting creative to help you find your new look!

  • We have T-SHIRTS again!! Two styles, even! Because they’re sold in the storefront, we put them on the in-store website. You can find them here!

  • We’re going to film a COMMERCIAL! Well, sort of a commercial. A couple of Crying Weasel short films?? Stay tuned for that.

NOVEMBER EVENTS

Saturday November 11

5pm to 8pm

We are once again hosting Daisy Pastry Shoppe on our patio! They were with us during Harvest Fest this year, but it rained all day (POURED, even) so we are having a redo. Our neighbors at Gallery 26 are having their 29th annual holiday art show and sale! There’s going to be live music, there’s going to be art, there’s going to be oatmeal cream pies.

Saturday November 25th
11am to 5pm

Our pals Glass Momma and Tuft Sh!t are hanging out on our patio for Small Business Saturday! We may add another vendor, that info is TBD right now. The time has come to shop for gifts (or for yourself hehe) and we wanted to bring in some of our favorite giftables!

~I N S P O ~

I didn’t really want to write a whole blog about one specific style, so I figured I would try to sum up what I’ve been inspired by lately in a list.

Here we have Ann Margaret wearing tights as pants (modern leggings hello) and a cute little sweater.

I usually go for a mockneck or a straight up turtleneck… or even a funnel neck, but there is something about this look that I can’t get enough of in the fall. See also: Audrey Hepburn’s beatnik look in Funny Face

I’ve never related to an outfit more in my life.

A lot of y’all know I’m an overall stan and I probably will be until the icy breath of death creeps upon my neck. OK, that was kinda dramatic, but it’s true. Overalls in the fall? Iconic. Love to wear ‘em like Christian over here and throw a trench coat or a blazer over them. Also, please consider the denim shirt/jacket underneath and keep your mind open while I ask you to ponder a fitted leather jacket under the overalls as well.

Maybe it’s unfair to use a photo of myself (and Liza from Howdy Bonita) …but I couldn’t find a photo on the internet of an outfit I liked as much as the one I actually wore. I felt really cute in this!

I’ve been very into tall boots with big long shorts lately. Also, I saw an ad where the model was wearing tall socks, sneakers, long denim shorts, and a denim duster and I can’t stop thinking about it. I’ll probably never find the ad again, but the look was so good.

Lastly, Cameron Diaz’s red hair in Gangs of New York is big inspo for me. I had no idea how badly I wanted red hair until Monday (yes, the day before yesterday at the time of writing this,) so.. I made an appointment. I’m not bluffing!!

MUSIC

What I’ll leave you with is a song I have been playing over, and over, and over here in the shop. I mean, the song is so good and moody and Spotify creates such a good playlist based off of it. It’s the perfect fall vibe, in my opinion.

Thanks for reading! There’s more cool things coming next month… should I… start a newsletter? Keep it confined to the blog page? Let me know in the comments!
